Cafe Review

The Cocoa Project in District 3 is a perfect blend of architecture, decor, cocoa and of course great coffee. From the street, peering into its glass frontage reveals a beautiful outdoor tropical paradise  you navigate through to enter the main building.

Inside utilizes a soaring ceilings, retro industrial features, passthroughs from the upper floor and dramatic use of large mural artworks to create supremely interesting space throughout. The ground floor opens up to a large seating area split in 3rds with an area for traditional cafe tables and two others with extra large laptop friendly bench style seating. The distressed wall treatments, tile floors, concrete accents and strategic lighting all come together to form a consistent and very well executed theme.

Edged in the back corner is a prominent serving counter featuring coffee equipment and display case for its tantalizing dessert items. Further back into the venue, windowed rooms let you peer into where food preparation takes place (where the magic happens).

Even when venturing to the upper floor, as you climb the stair case you’re treated to a dramatic modern mural. Walking into the upper floor, you’re greeted with ample appealing seating options of various configurations. The decor nicely carries all of the atmosphere and character from the ground floor. The front of the space is largely glass with centrally located doors that open up to a magnificent balcony that overlooks the tropical paradise below.

While The Cocoa Project is essentially a purveyor of chocolates, they’ve proven to be very skilled in the art of coffee making too. Their simple yet highly satisfying menu of coffees is consistently well prepared every cup. Choose from Vietnamese coffees, espresso, Cappuccino, Latte or Coconut coffee. And of course, these pair very nicely with their assorted chocolates and baked good (the cookies are ultra yummy).

Expect weekends and peak times to be bustling, but fortunately, even with many patrons this still doesn’t detract from the venue’s appeal. Like myself, you may find yourself a regular visitor when the venue, coffee and service are this good… The Cocoa Project is a must try.
