Cafe Review
CHỐN Manual Coffee Maker is a unique experience from beginning to end. From the adventure quest of actually finding the place, to its wonderful roof top locale, to its hand-press coffee making specialty – this isn’t your typical coffee fix.
The first step is actually getting to CHỐN. Normally for hidden cafes, Cafe Scene gives instructions, this time we’ve included clues in the form of photos – challenge accepted?
When you finally step into CHỐN, it’s tiny indoor space is just enough for a counter filled with intriguing coffee gadgets and a few bar stools. Opposite the counter, it’s large floor to ceiling doors open out to its beautiful outdoor roof top patio space.
Outside, it’s this idyllic mix of surrounding architectures, assortment of plants, eclectic furnishings and a supremely cool vibe. Whether going solo, with friends or whatever your arrangement, this tucked away little paradise is brilliant.
Speaking of brilliant… this isn’t your regular espresso machine or Vietnamese phin affair. CHỐN uniquely makes its coffees using manual hand-press machines for the espresso extraction. With a duo of Flair espresso makers and french presses, you’ll be fascinated watching them craft up some killer coffee creations.
Choosing the “KOI” coffee gets you espresso, milk foam and condensed milk, while a “KAO” coffee scores you espresso with cacao, cream and condensed milk. The KOI coffee had a slight sweetness, rich taste and a thick textured mouth feel – very satisfying. Regardless which you pick, the outcome is very agreeable and reasonably priced. Or perhaps try their unusual “Amecam”, an Americano with orange juice? All made by incredibly friendly and approachable staff.
CHỐN Manual Coffee Maker is quite simply, a must-experience cafe.
